Pushing the pedals – supporting the Ballarat Cycle Classic

30 Jun 2016

As a multi-national company with a local presence in more than 60 locations across Australia and New Zealand, actively engaging with and supporting our local communities is paramount to the Arthur J. Gallagher way.

One such example is our support of the annual Ballarat Cycle Classic. We’ve been a proud sponsor of the event since its inauguration in 2008, and it’s grown to become one of the most popular and well-supported sporting community events in the region.

The Ballarat Cycle Classic raises money for the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute, whose mission is to advance the understanding and treatment of cancer by making an internationally recognised contribution to cancer research.

Since its inception, more than 16,000 cyclists have taken part in the Ballarat Cycle Classic, contributing more than $1.4m to cancer research in that time. The 2016 event alone raised a magnificent total of $157,409.

Mike Thomas, Branch Manager of Arthur J. Gallagher Ballarat, says supporting events like this is part and parcel of how he approaches running his business.

“Here in Ballarat we’ve always taken pride in not just having 3000 clients, but 3000 friends who turn to us in their time of need,” he said.

“We’re very active in our community. Sponsoring the Ballarat Cycle Classic, and providing the insurance it needs to run successfully, is a natural extension of that and the fact that it raises so much money for such a worthy cause makes it even more worthwhile.”
